The Dorothy Bramlage Public Library has announced a cancellation of the Ribbon Cutting and Storywalk® Launch Party scheduled for April 30th at 10 am at Homer’s Pond. With the forecast calling for wind, low temperatures, and possible rain, we felt it is in the best interest of our youngest patrons to cancel at this time.

Emily Burtis, Head of the Young People’s Department, shared, “Since 2022, I have been working to bring a StoryWalk® to one of our local parks with the goal of creating an engaging, accessible literacy experience for families in our community. This project combines reading, movement, and outdoor exploration, encouraging children and caregivers to connect with stories in a fun and meaningful way. With the support and leadership of my director, Donna Porter, and in collaboration with valued community partners such as WIC and the Parks and Recreation Department, this vision has become a reality. The StoryWalk® will not only promote early literacy and family engagement, but also strengthen community connections by creating a shared space where learning and wellness come together.”

The StoryWalk® is dedicated in honor of Lucas Montgomery. Donna Porter, Library Director, said, “As a community library, one of our greatest privileges is growing alongside the families we serve. We had the true pleasure of knowing Lucas and seeing the joy he brought to those around him. From his days in storytime jumping between states on the play rug to running in with his big sister for new stories to share, Lucas carried the true spirit of a “helper” in everything he did. It is with both love and remembrance that this StoryWalk® is dedicated in his memory, honoring a young patron who will always be part of our library story.”

Creating this wonderful opportunity takes a village and the library would like to thank Konza Community Health and the Junction City Parks & Recreation Department for their support.

The StoryWalk® will feature rotating titles throughout the year, encouraging repeat visits and continued engagement. Community members are invited to visit Homer’s Pond, enjoy the current story, and experience reading in a whole new way.
