"We've done some awesome things."

Those were the words of Black History Trail Director Jim Sands during this Black History Month of February.  There are 12 dedicated historical sites on the Trail ranging from three churches to Rathert Field and the Geary County Historical Museum to the Buffalo Soldier Monument. ""We want people to come to Junction City and see what's here because there is so much history."

The Ninth and Tenth Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers were here along with Joe Louis and Jackie Robinson and the former East 9th Street Business District. More than 40 dialects are spoken in the community.

The Black History Trail includes both a web site and Facebook page. One goal is to bring  in visitors and encourage them to stay during their visit. Sands noted that there is also an exhibit running for two years at the Historical Musuem.
