Waiver available for new and renewing youth whose parent or guardian serves on active duty, in the Reserve or in the National Guard.
JUNCTION CITY, Kan. - Military families at Fort Riley and throughout the surrounding nation can now receive a waiver of Scouting America’s $85 national youth registration fee.
Effective June 1, 2026, the Military Family Fee Waiver is available to new and renewing youth members whose parent or guardian is currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, in a Reserve component or in the National Guard.
The nationally funded initiative is designed to make Scouting more accessible to military-connected youth and provide them with opportunities for outdoor adventure, leadership development, community service and lasting friendships.
“As a retired Army veteran, I understand the demands that military service places on the entire family,” said Ryan Hufcut, district executive for the Konza District. “Frequent moves and deployments can make it difficult for young people to establish roots. Scouting gives military-connected youth a community they can belong to wherever their family is stationed. This waiver removes one financial barrier to that experience.”
The waiver applies to eligible youth participating in Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouting. It is available for both new memberships and annual youth membership renewals completed online.
To receive the waiver, an eligible family should:
1. Begin the youth registration or renewal process online.
2. Select “Get Military Discount Code” when prompted.
3. Complete the military-status verification process.
4. Enter the provided discount code at checkout.
5. Confirm that the $85 national youth registration fee has been reduced to $0.
The waiver covers only the national youth registration fee. Adult registration fees, unit dues, uniforms, activity fees, optional subscriptions and other local expenses may still apply.
