Key stakeholders in Geary Community Hospital have initiated discussions on the status of healthcare in the community and a way forward for GCH. This follows the recent announcement that the intensive care unit at the hospital will be closed by Feb. 1.
LJ Baker, Director Human Resources and External Relations, noted in the near future there will be additional meetings including such stakeholders as the physician group at the hospital to county and hospital board representatives. "At this point there's a lot of spit-balling going on so to speak, a lot of opinions about what could have been done differently in the past, where we are right now when it comes to contracts that the hospital is under right now that are costing the hospital money, and how we can eliminate some of those costs. But no decisions have been made at this time."
Baker added that the strategy sessions are planned this week and next week where more input can be obtained and a strategy developed.
Baker said that they pledge to provide updated information as a strategy is finalized.
