Phyllis Fitzgerald, Executive Director of the Society of the First Infantry Division has announced that a GoFundMe account has been set up to finish raising funds to add the names of 631 Big Red One Soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq, plus their units.
The 1st Infantry Division Monument, is located near the White House, and was built in 1924. It currently contains the names of all 1st Infantry Division soldiers killed in WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. Additional details can be found at www.1stID.org.
Congress has approved modifications to the base of the monument to add the 631 names and their units of Big Red One soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Construction plans were approved, with construction beginning early in 2024. The goal is to raise $50,000 with this GoFundMe page to help in construction completion.
