Fort Riley will be burning the River Walk Trail area today ( Monday ) around noon. The Junction City Fire Department advises the public to be cautious on KS-57/N. Jackson St. This could produce lots of smoke in the Junction City area.
Geary County Emergency Management noted that the heavy smoke covered area will include North Jackson and North Washington. the wind speeds are light so it will not clear quickly. Proceed with caution when traveling and seek a possible alternative route ahead of time.
The River Walk will be closed during this time. More than 790 acres will be burned.
