Donald Harry Dembkowski

Donald Harry Dembkowski, age 60, of Manhattan, KS died January 28, 2021 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born on November 3, 1960 in Landstuhl, Germany, the son of Louis and Margit Dembkowski. Don got to experience life growing up in three different places. He lived in Germany, and Chicago, before the family finally settled in Manhattan in 1975. Donald graduated from Manhattan High in 1979.

He went on to dabble in several different fields of work. He worked as a cook in several different restaurants before trying his hand at parcel delivery with UPS. He worked with cars and people for a time at Dick Edwards before working his final job building doors at Manko Windows in Manhattan, KS. He was a hardworking man that succeeded in all he did.

Don was a kind hearted man who would do anything for anyone. He was a quiet man that enjoyed things in nature like walks, and bird or plane watching. Donald loved taking his small hand radio out and going fishing or he could be found watching a Pink Floyd DVD at home with the music cranked up. He enjoyed watching sports. Local teams were his favorite; Chiefs, K-State, Royals. Later in life he enjoyed sharing those hobbies with his grandkids. He loved to take them on walks and watch TV shows with them. Cooking shows were the number one favorite during visits to Grandpas. One of his favorite things he and his son would do was cook things together. They could often be found learning new things from one another in the kitchen. Everyone who visited Donald's home can attest to the fact that he had two favorite things in his life. Puzzles and his Grandkids. If he didn't have a puzzle going to have a conversation about, he would talk your ear off about his granddaughter and grandson. They were the lights of his life and he was theirs.

He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Dembkowski.

Donald is survived by his mother Margit, his son Ryan (Amber), his grandchildren Sully and Fallon, his brothers Ludwig (Gayla), Patrick, Rodney (Melody), and his sister Patty (Wally).

At Donald's requests there will be no funeral or memorial services. The family asks that in lieu of flowers you send a donation to a cancer foundation of your choosing.

The Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502, is assisting the family with arrangements.
