
Five music students, inluding two from Junction City, were awared a total of $2,500 in scholarship money Saturday at the General Federated Women's Clubs of Kansas Music Auditions at the First Baptist Church in Junction City.
The students each receiving $500 scholarships were Kora Muniz-Lorenzo and Daphne Brown, Junction City, KS, vocal music; Jeremiah Young, Minneapolis, KS, piano; Rebekah Pickering, Manhattan, KS , Cello; and Scarlett Pfister, Hutchinson, KS, Piccolo.
According to GFWC State Music Chair Florence Whitebread the auditions were started in 1925 by Mrs. J. Abbie Clark Hogan, a local Junction City violinist and member of the Junction City Ladies Reading Club. She was also a noted violinist over Europe and the United States and wanted to recognize and promote local music students, Whitebread said.
