Cause of house fire in Manhattan under investigation

MANHATTAN —Authorities are investigating a house fire in Manhattan. Just after 1a.m. Monday, the Manhattan Fire Department responded to a house fire at 714 Pottawatomie Avenue, according to a media release.

Crews found a single-story home with flames showing from the rear of the home.   The home was searched and the fire was extinguished in less than 10 minutes.

 One firefighter suffered a knee injury and was taken to the hospital and released. The building is a one-story, single-family dwelling with a basement. Loss is estimated at $15,000 to contents and $30,000 to the structure. 

The occupants escaped before fire crews arrived. They are now displaced and assisted by the American Red Cross.

The owners are listed as John, Robert, Craig, Guliford, Ruthie, Lucas, and Linda Harper.
