Geary County Commissioners have adopted a proposed 2026 budget that includes an increase of 1.644 mills to 56.301 mills. County Finance Director Tami Robison confirmed that the amount of general fund property tax generated revenue would increase $1,127,554. The increase is primarily due to the existence of a 27th pay period for the county with overall salary cost increases plus increased costs for the jail. The 27th pay period only occurs on average every 11 or 12 years.
The revenue neutral rate and budget public hearings will be Sept. 8 at 11 a.m.
The total general fund ad valorem property tax revenue is estimated at $17,755,447.
