Members of the community participated in the Adult Corporate Pinewood Derby hosted at Jim Clark Chevrolet Friday night to help raise funds for the Coronado Area Council Boy Scouts.
One of the coordinators, Willie Thornberg, said the event was a blast. "We did the rental car, the rental rocket so you didn't have to slave over a rental car, but you certainly could if you wanted to." There was an auction for first pick of the rental rockets. "It has just been an absolute hoot."
A fast car could cover the track in about three seconds at about 230 miles per hour. "They go four at a time, there's four different tracks, and each car runs in each track, said Thornberg.
Organizers hope to make this an annual event.
