Kansas Day Celebration at the Discovery Center

Posted Jan 23, 2024 9:31 PM

The Flint Hills Discovery Center (FHDC) invites the public to a Kansas Day Celebration on Saturday, January 27 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. All activities are included with admission to the Discovery Center

With Kansas Day on Monday, January 29, a celebration at the FHDC the weekend before gives guests the opportunity to participate in activities, stories, and education opportunities dedicated to the sunflower state.

In the morning, watch a Bison box presentation to see and feel a full-size bison robe and skull and learn how Plains Indians turned the bison into dozens of tools, objects and articles of clothing. In the afternoon, learn about Kansas symbols including the state bird, state flower, and state reptile, featuring our own Ornate Box Turtle, Sheldon. The Barred Tiger Salamander, our official state amphibian, will be on display in the second-floor classroom, and is the inspiration for a craft guests can make.

Also in the classroom, listen to stories featuring Kansas. Then, learn about and color Kansas symbols on the second-floor balcony.
