Junction City Blue Jay coach Randall Zimmerman said Friday night "was a very good night." The occasion involved Future Blue jay, middle and high school football scrimmages and the high school volleyball scrimmage at JCHS. There were also cheerleader and dance team practices along with good community attendance at Blue Jay Stadium for all of the Blue / White scrimmage activity.

Zimmerman addressed varsity football noting that the Blue Jays have some things to work on,  but through two weeks of practice there has been improvement. The defense has been solid. "There are so many guys that can just really really run, go to the ball, very disciplined." Michael Boganowski is really leading that group over there, him and Donque Williams. " Zimmerman added that Cooper Bogenhagen is doing some good things and the leader inside on the front seven is Elijah Clarke-Boyd

The passing game on offense needs some work. Zimmerman explained the focus area there. "Our quarterbacks must know where a receiver is at on every route. They have to know where they're going to be every single route. Once we get that down that will help us with our catching." The coach feels that will allow the quarterbacks to throw passes that are more catchable. "It's just one of those chemistry things." Players mentioned who will get some time at receiver include Sheldon Butler-Lawson, Michael Boganowski in spot duty, TJ Jones and Trent Crumpton.

Xavion Felton, Brock Bazan and Braedon Stroda are playing quarterback. They were cited by Zimmerman for making strong improvement. Stroda will also see some time at receiver.

Field goal duties will be handled by Aiden Field, a senior at JCHS. He is a veteran returning from a year ago.

Junction City opens the season at Hays next Friday night. All Blue Jay games will be heard on 107.9 FM / 1420 KJCK AM.
