Geary County Rural Fire responded to 151 calls in 2021, up from 120 in 2020. Rural Fire Chief Garry Berges noted that there were 307 truck responses compared to 244 a year earlier, and volunteer responses were 614 compared to 485 in 2020.
The total loss amount in 2021 was calculated at $708,125, up from $204,130 in 2020 and $282,150 in 2019. Berges confirmed factors in the increase for 2021 were a combine fire, semi fire and there were five additional structure fires.
