Due to health and safety concerns the Chapman Fighting Irish boys and girls basketball teams, as well as other winter sports will not be competing when seasons begin this week.

According to Chapman Athletic Director Clint Merritt, the school has been in a remote learning situation since Monday, and all winter athletics are on hold until at least January fourth.

These actions come on the strong recommendation of the county health officer.

“I am incredibly pleased with our coaches and staff in how they’ve gone above and beyond to keep our kids safe,” Merritt said. “Our staff is not upset by the decision, of course they want to compete but they understand that this decision is for the health and safety of the community.”

We will continue to update the situation at Chapman High School as more information becomes available.
