Geary County news notes

The West Lyons Creek Road bridge replacement project has begun. The structure has already been removed. The entire project was allotted for a 90 day time frame. That was one of the topics reported on to the Geary County Commission Monday.

Others included:

--The K-177 improvement project is progressing. The highway has been reopened with temporary traffic control in place. 

--The Geary County Convention & Visitors Bureau office at 222 West Sixth Street will be closed from 3 p.m. Dec. 22nd until Jan. 2. The building will be locked for the holidays but the staff will work remotely from home during that time period.

Geary County offices will be closed Dec. 25th and 26th, plus Jan. 1st for the holidays. There will not be a county commission meeting on Dec. 27th.

--Geary County Rural Fire  reported that they have responded to 120 fires so far this year. That's down from 145 in 2022.

--The annual Rural Fire Appreciation Supper will be held Sunday evening.

--Geary County has received an annual emergency planning grant totaling $29,806. That amount is down slightly from recent years.
