Donna Porter, Library Director at the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library (DBPL) shared information with the JC Breakfast Optimist Club members on March 18 at the Hampton Inn in Junction City. Donna is a military spouse who began her career as an elementary school teacher. She later got her master’s degree in English then returned to college to earn her license in Library Science. She is currently the Director of the DBPL.

Donna told the Optimists that there are many ways the public is served in the library. Some of those include making books available for check out or online, having available a community resource directory, story times for youth and adults, information about recycling, legal resources, a home-school guide, technology assistance and the Summer Reading Program.

This year’s Summer Reading Program will have a dinosaur theme. The program will begin May 2 and is titled Unearth A Story. The JC Breakfast Optimist Club helps support Summer Reading Program each year with a donation of $200.00.

To learn more about the many programs, resources and assistance that can be provided by the staff at the local library call 785-238-4311.

The JC Breakfast Optimist Club will be having a fundraiser at the American Legion located at Fourth and Franklin Streets on May 28 from 7:00-10:00 AM. The breakfast will include scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns, sausages, juice and coffee for a donation of $10.00. Tickets may be purchased from JC Breakfast Optimist Club members or at the door. The purpose of the fundraiser is to raise $1,000 for the club’s scholarship for a JCHS senior to attend a vocational school following their high school graduation.
