Beginning Monday, Nov. 3, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) plans to begin work on the first phase of interchange improvements at the K-18/I-70 junction in Geary County.

KDOT announced that during phase one of construction, the start of construction until March 2026, work will be restricted to the project limits and with no impact to I-70/K-18 traffic.

Beginning in mid-November, access to K-18 from Boller Road will be closed, and traffic may use Whiskey Lake Road to access K-18 via I-70.

During the second phase of construction which is scheduled to begin in March 2026, one lane of traffic will be directed through construction at a reduced speed. During periods of construction, median crossovers will be used to carry all traffic through work via the eastbound or westbound lanes.

King Construction of Hesston is the prime contractor for this $27.5 million project and has scheduled the entire project to be completed in Fall 2027.
