Rolling Meadows Golf Course has provided enjoyment to many people and brought in thousands of dollars to Junction City since the course opened on April 1, 1984, now 40 years ago.
Municipal Court Judge Michael McKone reviewed the history of the course during Tuesday night's city commission meeting and put the spotlight on two men who helped make it all possible, former Junction City Clerk, 96-year old Frank Gallagher and former City Manager ( the late ) John Higgins.
McKone noted that the land for the course was purchased for one dollar from the U.S. Department of the Interior as a park for recreational activity of all citizens. Today the city owned course continues to serve the citizens of the community. He also pointed to affordable rates at the golf course and called it a fantastic value. There will be 24 tournaments played at Rolling Meadows just this year.
McKone presented a check for $500 from senior golfers to Rolling Meadows.
