USD 475 Communcations Coordinator
JUNCTION CITY, Kan. – Finance Pathway students at Junction City High School are busy this February preparing tax returns not only for Geary C USD 475 staff members, but also for community members in Junction City, Fort Riley, Grandview Plaza, Milford and other surrounding communities. “The Junction City High School VITA website has been opened since 1999. VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. Our students are certified by the IRS to prepare basic and advanced returns. They E-FILE both Federal and State returns. Taxpayers should receive their refunds within 10 days,” said Roxanne Whaley, JCHS teacher.
Having high school students prepare taxes for local communities is nothing new for the Blue Jays as the high school has been offering this service for almost 30 years. The tax site, which is operated and run by students and an on-site coordinator in Whaley, is open every day of the school week from 7:40 to 9:05 a.m. Those wishing to have their taxes done can do so by scheduling an appointment or by visiting room B225 at the high school. Community members may also use the drop off service inside the main office at the high school.
