Abilene CVB Receives $25,000 Sunflower Foundation Grant for Iron Horse Trail Improvements

Abilene, Kan. – The Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau has received a $25,000 grant from the Sunflower Foundation through its Paving the Way – From Blazing Trails to Building Community grant and education program, which supports Kansas communities at various stages of public-access trail development with customized planning support, technical assistance and peer learning opportunities.

The Abilene CVB was one of 25 communities to receive a Sunflower Foundation trail grant, and one of seven communities awarded a Trail Town grant, which supports communities interested in becoming Certified Kansas Trail Towns. The Trail Town model is a strategy that embraces trails as community development resources and economic drivers.“The Abilene CVB, in partnership with the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad and the Community Foundation of Dickinson County, plans to construct permanent restroom facilities along the five-mile Iron Horse Trail that connects Abilene and Enterprise.
