Two hospitalized after rear-end crash

RILEY COUNTY—Two people were injured in an accident just after 11a.m. Monday in Riley County.

Officers responded to the report of an injury crash in the 100 block of E. Poyntz Ave. in Manhattan on August 21, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found

A 2004 Ford EC3 driven by Rodney Welfringer, 55, of Manhattan was westbound on Highway 24 and took the right turn lane to merge onto northbound Tuttle Creek Blvd., according to the Riley County Police Department activity Report.

The van rear-ended a 2016 Honda Fit driven by Yolanda Broyles-Gonzalez, 74, of Manhattan who was in the turn lane.

EMS transported Broyles-Gonzalez and a passenger in her car to Via Christi for treatment of back pain. Welfringer was issued a citation for inattentive driving.
