This 42-inch catfish was caught at Homer's Pond In Junction City by Grayson Silver. He is a third grade student at Westwood Elementary School.

“Me and my uncle (Mike Edmonson) were fishing at this duck pond where there are not a lot of big fish in it. We were using bluegill for bait and once I caught it, I let it get tired and then I reeled it in as fast as I could,” said Silver. “It was like five or 10 minutes and then I pulled it out of the water with my bare hands. We brought it home and kept it in our fish tank inside for a few days and fed it, but it started to get lonely, so we returned him to the pond.”

By reeling in the monster catfish, Silver has now qualified to receive the Master Angler Award from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. To receive this honor, which is considered the highest honor an angler of any age can receive from the state, a blue catfish must measure at least 37 inches.
