The 50th Annual Freedom Run Committee is pleased to announce the 2026 Freedom Runners: The Family of Jerry Mathis, Robert Munson Family, Ted Hayden, Alice Stuckey, Amy Garman, Tim Testa, Mandy Zimmerman and Marvin Hachmeister.
This milestone year calls for a special recognition. Rather than honoring a single program or person, we're celebrating the runners and families who have carried the Freedom Run spirit through the decades—those who have laced up their shoes year after year, supported their communities and embodied the values that make this race a Junction City tradition.
The 50th Annual Freedom Run represents more than a race. It represents community togetherness and pride. These Freedom Runners are the backbone of that legacy. Whether competing, volunteering, or simply showing up to celebrate alongside their neighbors, they've woven themselves into the fabric of our running community.
For 50 years, the Junction City Freedom Run has been the heartbeat of the Independence Day celebration—a beloved cornerstone of Freedom Fest that brings together runners, volunteers and spectators in a shared commitment to community and patriotism. What began five decades ago has grown into a regional favorite, attracting competitive runners and families alike to three courses (1-mile, 5K, and certified 10K) that wind through downtown Junction City and finish at Heritage Park.
