COVID-19 positive rate is up for Geary Community Hospital

There was a 28% increase in the positive rate for COVID-19 cases at Geary Community Hospital from November to December. The COVID-19 numbers were reviewed for the Hospital Trustees Tuesday. There have been 642 people tested in December, up 182 from November.  

There was a recent outbreak at Valley View Senior Life involving 59 positive cases, with two admitted to the hospital. 

So far 23,850 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer have been delivered to Kansas, but none to Geary Community Hospital yet. GCH officials are not sure how many doses they will receive in this first round of distribution. 

As of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday there were 10 COVID-19 inpatients at the hospital. Five were being treat in the intensive care unit with four on ventilators. There were five more patients on the med/surg floor.
