17th District State Senator Jeff Longbine has announced his intention to retire from the Kansas Senate. He informed the Geary County Commission of his plans on Monday, adding he will be in office until January.
Longbine has represented the District that includes Junction City and part of rural Geary County, Fort Riley, Grandview Plaza, Lyon County including Emporia and parts of Wabaunsee and Pottawatomie counties for 14 years.
One candidate, Republican Mike Argabright of Olpe, has filed for election to the 17th District seat. He is a former superintendent of schools for USD 252 Southern Lyon County.
