Jim Schmidt is a candidate for reelection to the Geary USD 475 Board of Education. He has spent five-and-a-half years on the BOE. Schmidt noted that during that time the biggest thing he has been a part of has dealt more with operations and facilities, and he described the facilities as fantastic.
Schmidt noted that he was raised, "Don't bring me problems bring me solutions. And that's one thing that I've truly enjoyed to be a part of during my time on USD 475 Board of Education. It's the opportunity to bring solutions and have positive impacts on our students, our staff and our community as a whole."
Schmidt wants to continue putting motion in the future behind academic achievement, social, emotional growth for our students, behavioral health and what he noted as probably the biggest hurdle for the District to cross, parent engagement. "The more parent engagement we can get from our students, with their guardians, their grandparents whoever it may be the better off we're going to be as a school district."
Schmidt said he's enjoyed his time on the Board. "Really enjoyed it. We've got great staff, just love our kids and the diversity, our relationship with the folks at Fort Riley and just looking forward to an opportunity to continue that."
The election is November 7.
