As is the case with many school districts Geary USD 475 is looking for teachers. Tim Winters, Executive Director for Personnel Services, noted that they are approximately 22-23 teachers short. "That's teachers in the classroom where we could be at full capacity. Last year we were in the mid 30's and there for quite some time. So we've made some progress but we still have a ways to go."
Meeting Thursday night the Board of Education approved a personnel report that included the hiring of eight certified staff and 55 classified employees for payroll.
The plan to deal with the shortage of teachers will be to use a plan similar to last school year. "Their class sizes are increasing. In some cases they've reduced the number of sections if it's at a secondary level but they have all students covered."
This is the first week of the 2022-23 school year.
