YMCA release
U.S. Senator Roger Marshall visited Junction City to tour the YMCA’s Summer Program for school-age children. The program, housed at Franklin Elementary, keeps kids engaged with art and STEM projects, field trips, special guest visits, and group activities that promote teamwork and creativity.“
The partnership with the school district has been amazing,” said YMCA CEO Amber Stanley. “Franklin Elementary offers a great space, and we utilize every spot.” Each afternoon during the school year, children receive a healthy “Power Meal” and participate in enrichment activities such as homework help and hands-on learning. The site also hosts the YMCA’s ECBG program and the district’s Parents as Teachers program.
During his visit, Senator Marshall watched kids play bingo , then toured the YMCA to observe their Summer Food Program in action. Despite ongoing renovations, the Senator was able to view the newly opened pool and updated gym floor. He also met families benefiting from the YMCA’s free, nutritious summer meals, which are available for take-away. The YMCA offers these free meals during the school year as well that must be consumed on site.
