Junction City and Geary County Public Works crews are working to clean up the city and county following the straight-line winds and thunderstorms from Monday night’s storms.

Junction City Public Works Director Ray Ibarra stated that cleanup efforts began around 11:00 P.M. on Monday night. In the early morning hours on Tuesday, the full crews began clean-up efforts in the city especially on the roadways. Work will continue all throughout this week, and Ibarra hopes that by the end of this week, city crews will be able to have most of their cleanup finished. “Please be patient with us,” said Ray Ibarra, Junction City Public Works Director. “We will get to you as soon as we can.”

Once crews finish their cleanup, Ibarra said they will then give a week’s notice to the public about city crews coming by and picking up tree limbs. When this occurs, Ibarra said they need residents to take the tree limbs / branches to the curb or put them at the end of the alleyway. “We will not go onto personal property,” Ray Ibarra said. When this city pickup begins, they will begin on the south end of Junction City and work their way north.

As the cleanup efforts are underway, the Geary County Landfill extended their hours on Tuesday, and are also extending their hours this Friday, June 12. The Landfill will be open 7:30 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. on Friday, and on Saturday, 8:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. Tree Limbs and brush are the only items allowed at the Geary County Landfill.
