Advance voting for the Presidential Preference Primary election begins Wednesday, Feb. 28th, at the Geary County Office Building. County Clerk Courtney Gilbert said that the hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 28th through March 8th, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 11th through the 15th and March 18th 8:30 a.m. until noon. The election is March 19th from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Following a push to increase the number of registered voters in the county the total is up to 19,178.
There are seven polling locations in Geary County, including a new one at the Zion United Church of Christ.
In this primary only presidential candidates will be on the ballot. This primary replaces what would have been a caucus. "This is really a way for the state parties, the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, to see which way the voters are voting. This is how they will determine who they nominate to go on their ballot in the primary in August," said Gilbert.
Gilbert noted that there is always a need for board workers for elections. With this being a presidential year they are always seeking more. Board workers are paid for their training. It is too late for the Presidential Preference Primary but board workers could help with the August Primary and November General elections.
