Rural Fire will seek grant funding for station upgrades

Geary County Rural Fire Chief Garry Berges has announced that paperwork is being done for a 30-year loan to rebuild three rural fire stations.

Two older buildings dating back to the 1960's are included along with an addition to the station on Barr Road near I-70 milepost 303 exit where space will be added for more two more vehicles.

In other business there have been 100 fire calls this year compared to 120 a year ago at this time. There were six building fires with a damage total of $477,000. There have been 10 road or vehicle fires in 2024 compared to a normal average of four to five. The damage calculations on those fires this year totaled $278,000.
