Memorial Day ceremonies are set for Monday

There will be a Memorial Day observance at the C.L. Hoover Opera House in Junction City at 10 a.m. Monday. Command Sgt. Maj. ( Ret. ) William Allen will serve as the keynote speaker. The ceremony is being sponsored by the Geary County Veterans Alliance.

The 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley will conduct their annual Memorial Day observance at 11:40 a.m. Monday at the Post Cemetery, 193 Huebner Rd.

Col. William McKannay will speak as part of the observance. McKannay and Cmd. Sgt. Maj. Timothy Speichert will place a wreath in honor of those who have died while serving in our country's armed forces.

The ceremony is open to the public; however, those without a Department of Defense ID card need to arrive early at the Henry Gate visitor control center (Exit 301 off I-70) to obtain a pass to the installation.
