Geary USD 475 school board members voted Tuesday evening to allow talks to resume with the city on possible acquisition of the old Junction City High School property. The new JCHS opened in late August.

In June the city maintained an earlier $1 offer for the old high school site. They wanted the site at 900 N. Eisenhower Drive to be demolished and cleared before the City assumed maintenance of the property.

There was an earlier counteroffer from the school district with multiple options ranging from  USD 475 retaining 17 acres at the current site for construction of a new elementary school in the future to swapping the former high school site for 17 acres in the land bank for a future elementary school, or for an increase in the offer to include fair market value for the land, tennis courts and football field. No final action was taken.
