Geary County Commission Chair Alex Tyson announced Wednesday that the governing body is looking forward to working with the new Interim CEO at Geary Community Hospital, Margaret Grismer, and the Board of Trustees to find a new path for the hospital. GCH is facing financial challenges.
Commissioners met in executive session Wednesday to discuss hospital but took no action after it ended. The Trustees have decided to close the intensive care unit at GCH at the end of the month, but the governing body is hopeful that the intensive care unit at Geary Community will be brought back at some point in the future.
Tyson said the commission also stands by the decision to close the ICU. He added an intensive care unit is needed by they understand the closure "at this time." The County Chair noted that staffing issues have placed a burden on Geary Community. "Let us try to find a clear path and at some point in time we can get the ICU back up and running."
