UPDATE:

Thousands of people have attended the Oktoberfest celebration in Junction City. There was a steady turnout in the downtown area for the event on Saturday. Justin Hoover, Coordinator, said on Saturday night there were two to three times more people in attendance than a year ago. "They had a drone that went over and the drone counted 5,800 people and that doesn't count the people that are all in the tents."

Hoover said it would be his guess that there more than 10,000 present Friday night. "And then we had just a huge turnout today ( Saturday ) to so it's really been good."

Hoover noted that those attending enjoyed the food, contests and the bands. "It's been a nice little family environment to. I think they're all enjoying that."

An event that proved extremely popular in 2021, Oktoberfest,  returns to downtown Junction City Friday and Saturday. Justin Hoover, coordinator, said, "Tables and chairs will arrive at 8 in the morning and then all of our crew will get there and set all that up and get all of the lights and tents and everything worked up.

Food, games and entertainment and of course beer are all a part of Oktoberfest. Hoover noted that the tapping of  the first keg will be at 4 p.m. "Music starts at 4:30 and food will be available at 4 p.m.

Polka bands will perform while the headliner bands will be Brass Rewind from Kansas City plus the All Stars from Kansas City.

Oktoberfest runs through Friday evening, and during the day and evening on Saturday. Hoover expects a big crowd. 'We've been out and about to a lot of events, we've had folks that were out at Apple Day at Fort Riley passing out a lot of information. I think we've done a pretty good job of getting the word out."

Oktoberfest will be held on Washington Street from 6th to 10th and for one-half block on both 7th and 8th Streets.
