The JC Breakfast Optimist Club hosted Alicia Scofield, the Director of Student Services for USD 475 this morning at their weekly meeting.
Scofield has been with the district for 19 years, but this is just her second year as the Director of Student Services. She works with counselors, nurses, teachers, administrators, Fort Riley, and Junction City mental health agencies to improve all aspects of students lives.
Scofield said, "There is a strategic plan in the district that among other things includes academics, emotional/social support, parent engagement and recruitment/retention of staff."
She also shared that there will be a Community Awareness presentation at Junction City High School on September 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Guest speakers include John Calvert from the Kansas State Department of Education and Mary Jo Fleming with the local Health Department. Local law enforcement agents will also be there presenting information about vaping and the impact on student's health.
