Fire weather watch in warm, windy Flint Hills

A fire weather watch remind in effect for the Flint Hills into Tuesday night, the National Weather Service in Topeka warned.

Winds are expected to remain from the north through Monday nigh, sustained at 10 to 15 mph and gusting to 25 mph. The winds will shift from the south by Tuesday afternoon, increasing to 20 to 25 mph and gusting up to 40 mph. 

A burn ban in is effect for Riley and Geary counties.

A projected Tuesday high in the mid-80s, couple with low humidity and continued dry conditions, will drastically increase the chance of wildfires.

There is a 20 percent chance of rain in the early morning hours Wednesday, followed by a significant cooldown. The high Wednesday is only expected to reach the low-50s, with an overnight low in the mid- to upper-20s.
