Geary County Commissioner Keith Ascher issued a statement Monday saying that he had heard from an overwhelming number of Geary County citizens that don't want a proposed slaughter / processing plant located in the county.
Ascher said "I am stating my opposition to such a proposal. This is not the right industry or fit for our community or our demographics. My responsibility is to the citizens of the whole of Geary County. "
There has been public concern about the proposed project in recent days by a number of citizens. City and County leaders have noted that due diligence is being done on the proposal at this time. No final action has been taken.
