Rain chances for Thursday

An early morning thunderstorm greeted Junction City on Thursday.

Geary County Emergency Management passed along information from the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorm Outlook Today and Tonight Marginal Risk for Damaging Winds and Heavy Rains

Thunderstorms could develop along a slow moving front today into tonight and produce excessive rainfall of 2 to 4 inches in a short period of time with isolated higher amounts possible. Storms could form quickly and then collapse causing damaging winds.

Damaging wind gusts around 60 MPH this afternoon and evening until around 9 PM.

●CONFIDENCE: Confidence in storms developing is medium to high. The main uncertainty is the location of the boundary and where thunderstorms develop. 

Heavy Rain Outlook for Today into Friday Morning Rain Amounts of 2 to 4 Inches Possible

The chance for more than 3 inches of rain is between 15-50% for any given location.

 Flash flooding from excessive rainfall could lead to quick rises on streams.Water ponding on roads would making travel difficult. Poor drainage areas in cities can quickly become overwhelmed from the rain.●

TIMING: Heavy rain is possible today through Friday, though is most likely this afternoon into tonight.
