WABAUNSEE COUNTY—Five people were injured in an accident just before 10p.m. Wednesday in Wabaunsee County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2018 Mazda passenger vehicle driven by Jeremy M. Keith, 28, Lakewood, Colorado, was eastbound in the right lane on Interstate 70 at Keene-Eskridge Road.
The Mazda rear ended the trailer of 1999 Ford F350 driven by David E. Ruther, 68, Lebo, that had recently merged on the interstate from Windy Hill Road.
EMS transported Keith and passengers in the Mazda identified as Christina Vogel 54; Isaiah C. Shultz, 16; Noah Shultz, 8, and Xavier Shultz, 6, all of Denver to Stormont Vail. Ruther was not injured.
Keith and Isaiah Shultz were not wearing seat belts and the 6-year-old's car seat was was improperly secured, according to the KHP.
