CLAY COUNTY—One driver died and law enforcement arrested the other driver involved in an accident just before 7a.m. Thursday in Clay County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1998 Chevy Silverado driven by Jacob Tyler Zelinski, 27, Beloit, was was eastbound on U.S. 24 one mile east of Clay Center.
The pickup crossed the westbound lane, entered the north ditch and struck a 2001 Buick Park Avenue driven by Dale Hammond, 82, Clay Center, who was northbound on a driveway just North of U.S. 24.
Hammond was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the collision Zelinski fled the scene on foot. He was located and placed under arrest a short time later and transported to the Clay County Hospital. Zelinski was also not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
