Plans for the Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony

Posted Jan 14, 2024 7:17 PM

The Martin Luther King Jr. ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Monday at the C.L. Hoover Opera House in Junction City.

Fueled By Faith is theme for the event.

Daphne Maxwell, Event Coordinator, discussed the motivation for Dr. King. "As a young man for him to accept and acknowledge that he had a special call on his life for ministry at an early age." King heeded that call and faith was his motivation.

The ceremony will be youth focused. Kenyon 'KJ' Ladson Jr., Fort Riley, will serve as the guest speaker for the ceremony. He is a youth minister and musician, and attends the New Church of the Living God in Junction City.

Other speakers will include Brewel Currie and Daphne Maxwell. The Coretta Scott King Award will be presented to two recipients that will be named during the ceremony.

The march that normally occurs downtown after the ceremony will not be held this year due to the cold weather.
