Dorothy Ann Dyer

Dorothy Ann Dyer, age 88, of Manhattan, passed away Friday April 25, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born on April 3, 1937, in Manhattan, the daughter of Dean and Katherine (Marks) Blasing. Dorothy grew up in the Ogden area. She attended Seven Dolors Grade School and then Sacred Heart High School and graduated with the class of 1955. After graduating she attended Kansas State University and earned her bachelor’s degree.

Dorothy worked at Putnam Hall at KSU in housing and dining services and later at the Entomology Department. In 1983 she became an accountant for the Kansas Wheat Commission and worked there until she retired in 1999.

Dorothy was married to Ralph McHugh. They were blessed with five children. She and Ralph later divorced.

She was united in marriage to Eldon Dyer on September 10, 1999. Dorothy and Eldon enjoyed traveling the country in their RV and camping all over the country. Eldon preceded her in death on October 18, 2015.

Dorothy enjoyed going square dancing, she loved to do embroidery, she made many baptismal shawls for the church families over the years. When she was able to have some time to read a delightful book. Her family was so important to her. Dorothy loved being with her kids and grandkids as often as she could. She attended as many of the kids and grandkids sporting events and activities as she could, trying not to miss any of them.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Cecilia, Larry, and Mary Kay.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Ralph McHugh (Mary Jo), Geralyn Carstenson, Pamela Hendricks (Greg), Rhonda Briggs (Kelly), and Randy McHugh; also, her brother Dale Blasing and sister Patricia Simon; and her fifteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 7:30p.m. Thursday May 8, 2025, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. A Parish Vigil will follow the visitation starting at 7:30p.m. Thursday May 8, 2025, at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00a.m. Friday May 9, 2025, at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden. The burial will follow at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Ogden.

Memorial contributions in memory of Dorothy are suggested to the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House Inc. Contributions may be sent in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
