Geary County Commissioners have voted 3-0 to have an operational audit done for the entire county government. With a major new or renovated jail expense looming in the future, the operational audit will look at issues ranging from efficiencies and staffing to equipment.

During discussion at this week's commission meeting county chair Trish Giordano suggested an operational audit for both the public works and sheriff's departments, the two biggest departments in the county government. Further discussion led to the decision to look at all departments.

The latest jail estimate totaled 29 million for a renovated facility. Another option might be to build a new facility but that cost is unknown.
