On September 9 JC Breakfast Optimist Club members met at the Hampton Inn and had as their guest speaker, Matt Hoover, who is one of the planners and organizers for Oktoberfest. This year’s Oktoberfest will be held in Junction City on October 2 from 4:00 until 11:00 PM and October 3 from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM.
Hoover told club members that “this is the sixth year of the event, which came from an idea of Terry Butler and Justin Hoover. The purpose was and still is to give the community something safe and fun to do and show off our downtown businesses”, Matt said. He also stated that “more is being done to focus on tourism” by attracting people from not only Kansas City and Wichita, but perhaps further. “If people come to our downtown and have a special experience, they may return another time to shop where they previously did not.”
There will be 85-90 vendors, a Kid’s Zone with electric drift cars, putt-putt golf, archery and more. Local and area brewers will sell their beer and lots of food will be available as well as music. A new event will be professional wrestling on each of the two days.
At least 100 volunteers are needed to help with Oktoberfest. Volunteers may contact Matt Hoover at Geary Rehab and Fitness Center by calling 785-238-3747.
