Lifeguard shortages have affected the Junction City swimming pool this season. Parks & Recreation Director, Nic Youngers, noted in the City Manager's recent 515 report that officials anticipated having 10 additional lifeguards this month. Out of the 10 candidates only two attended the lifeguard class and passed the pre-swim test.
Some week days including Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week the pool cannot be open. Wednesday and Thursday are normally closed days.
Youngers said the City is unable to hire more lifeguards because the last lifeguard for this season has closed. Pool hours and days of operation are subject to change on a weekly basis. Youngers added officials understand the frustration that causes and will do their best to keep a consistent schedule.
