Geary County Historical Society has been named the recipient of a 2022 Heritage Trust Fund grant. The grant, along with donations of Geary County residents will fund the replacement of the 35-year old roof on  the museum building.

The museum is housed in the old Junction City High School at 530 North Adams.  It was built in 1903 and has housed educational services ever since as the High School Departmental School, school district administrative building and finally the Historical Museum.

Geary County Historical Society Executive Director Heather Hagedorn said the replacement of the roof has been a needed project in recent years, and thanks to the Heritage Trust Fund committee and the Kansas Historical Society, will be completed in 2022.

The museum is required to make a 20% match to the project which is estimated at about $8,000. Anyone interested in donating to the roofing project can do so in person at the museum, via mail or through the museum's website.
