RILEY COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 6p.m. Friday in Riley County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1997 Chevy Lumina driven by Stephen Lynn Williams, 63, Green, Kansas, was southbound on U.S. 77 at U.S. 24 and struck pedestrian identified as Thomas William McHugh, 77, Riley, in the southbound lane. McHugh landed in the northbound lane. A northbound 2017 Chevy Silverado driven by Jude Lewis Benson, 20, Clay Center, also struck McHugh.
EMS transported McHugh, Williams and a passenger in the car Brenda Lynn Williams, 71, Green, Kansas, to Via Christi in Manhattan. McHugh was pronounced deceased. Benson was not injured. The occupants of both vehicles were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
