Eisenhower Presidential Library celebrates Ike's birthday

Abilene, Kan. - A number of events are scheduled to celebrate Dwight Eisenhower's 133rd birthday at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum.

VFW Vigil - Friday 10/13 - 4:30 p.m. (ends at 7:30 a.m.10/14)

VFW posts from across the state will stand vigil overnight at the burial site of the President. The public is also encouraged to stop by and pay their respects at the Place of Meditation.

Presidential Wreath Laying Ceremony - Saturday 10/14 - 10 a.m.

Saturday events begin with the Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony led by the 1st Infantry Division of Ft. Riley at 10 a.m. The procession begins at the Library building and proceeds to the Place of Meditation for the placement of the wreath.

American Legion Pilgrimage - Saturday 10/14 - 10:45 a.m.

The American Legion Pilgrimage will be held near the statue. The Chapman American Legion Post #240 will provide the rifle salute for the ceremony. Representatives from every Kansas post will gather to pay their respects to the President. This ceremony is free and open to the public.

Grayson County Amateur Radio Event - Saturday 10/14 - 10/22

The Grayson County (Texas) Amateur Radio Club hosts an event each year celebrating Dwight Eisenhower's birthday with a goal of promoting awareness and interest in HAM radio operations. The 10 unique call signs issued by the FCC contain the 10 letters that spell the name, Eisenhower. This year an operator will be stationed periodically at the Eisenhower Presidential Library campus operating under call sign W5E.
